Freddy Shaw

Freddy Shaw is an emerging opera singer with a strong foundation in both ensemble and solo performing. Freddy is currently the Taryn Fiebig Scholar for the duration of 2025 and 2026. He was a soloist/chorus member for Pinchgut’s production of Messiah in 2025, and also played the role of Lucifer in Pinchgut Opera’s 2026 production of The First Murder. In 2024, Freddy made his debut as a member of the Cantillation Chorus as a bass-baritone in Pinchgut Opera’s production of Dido and Aeneas.

He has been featured as a soloist in Haydn’s The Creation, Deborah Cheetham Fraillon’s Parrwang Lifts the Sky, and in various early music works, including Monteverdi’s Vespers of 1610 with Christchurch St Lawrence. His professional career as a musician began as a boy soprano, performing with Opera Australia in their 2017 production of King Roger as a member of the children’s chorus. The following year, he played the role of Joas in Pinchgut Opera’s production of Athalia, marking his debut as a soloist.

Freddy was the winner of the 2025 Demant Dreikurs Scholarship Song Competition, and has appeared in masterclasses with artists such as Jessica Pratt. Freddy continues to grow as a versatile and accomplished artist, blending an understanding of musical tradition with an eagerness to explore new vocal challenges. He is currently in his fourth year of a Bachelor of Music with the support of the Chapple / Bremner scholarship, studying under Barry Ryan OAM.
